UN Condemns German School System

A BBC story reports that a UN special rapporteur has condemned Germany's school system after an eight-day inspection. The main problem, it seems, is that the education system selects children very early - at the age of ten - to go to either a grammar school or a vocational one.

I recall speaking with an Austrian college principal and being shocked to hear that youngsters as young as 14 were being asked to make a committment to a particular career (eg plumber, mechanic, beauty therapist, hospitality). And to find that once committed it was difficult to change.
